Educational Interests
Dr. Kaplowitz established the Center for Exercise and Aging in 2001. Along with the students in her Exercise and Aging class (which she teaches each semester), she has worked with hundreds and hundreds of older adults from senior centers, assisted living facilities, etc., and helped run programs including the New Jersey Senior Olympics and the Middlesex County Senior Health and Fitness Walk. In addition, Dr. Kaplowitz developed and implemented a program for “challenged” preschoolers for the Franklin Public Schools. She wrote a Manual entitled The Pre-School Physical Education Program for that school system. She also consulted for the Warren Public Schools and wrote their Curriculum Guide for Adapted Physical Education for grades K-5.
Honors and Awards
Awarded two grants - from the Middlesex County Department of Aging and the NJ Department of Senior Services - to administer a Balance and Fall Prevention Program to selected Senior Centers in Middlesex County, New Jersey.Produced a Manual for Physical Activities for Assisted Living Residences.Awarded the Professional Achievement Award from the New Jersey Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
